The weirdest, most bizarre reasons people have been arrested in Texas in 2017
The weirdest, most bizarre reasons people have been arrested in Texas in 2017, Texas is deadlocked with Florida when it comes to producing odd and strange stories about police arrests.
While all the Sunshine State's "Florida man ..." headlines have an excuse, namely very transparent open-records laws, what's Texas' reason?
For starters, Texas has pretty liberal public information laws, too, allowing any person, not just citizens or residents of Texas, to request state records.
Another reason may be the Lone Star State's massive population, nearly 7 million more than Florida's. With more people comes more crime, and with more crime, more police and news coverage.
One shot in the dark might be Texas' infamous heat, as studies have shown a positive correlation between crime and temperature.
Texas is also high on the list of per capita alcohol consumption. Police, arrests and alcohol usually don't mix well.
Another reason for Texas being a hotbed of weird crime might be the state's large influx of tourists.
Texas is ranked fourth in the nation for out-of-state visits, two spots behind Florida. Galveston, Corpus Christi and South Padre Island all pump out their fair share of intoxicated tourist news stories.
Lastly, Texas' strange crime phenomenon might just be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Audiences, even if they don't hail from the Lone Star State, might be more willing to share or talk about stories that begin with "Texas man" instead of something like "New Hampshire man."
